Yes folks, the rather awesome Spring Offensive (who we handle the press from via our Pop Noodle Radar roster) have today released something rather epic in the form of a near 14-minute long “mega-single”, and it certainly is something you will be interested in listening to if you’re even slightly intrigued by music which has even just a little thought put into it….

And of course if you’re already a fan of intelligent, arty and dynamic indie-rock then you certainly are in for a treat!

The First of Many Dreams About Monsters by springoffensive

You see, what BBC 6 Music describe as ‘a mega-single’, Spring Offensive’s intelligently crafted, inspiringly creative and often intricately complex new release is totally unique in its conceptual identity. The impetus for the record came from On Death and Dying, a book by Swiss psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, in which she lays out five individual states of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance (‘the Grief Cycle’). The band used this structure as their basis for the record and incorporated audio extracts from interviews with Kübler-Ross to link the sections together.

Fresh from the release of their self-released debut album, ‘Pull Us Apart’, and currently promoting the record across the UK on their self-booked tour, this persistently hardworking D.I.Y quintet express that “We don’t want to force-feed any meanings on to the listener. However, it is worth pointing out that this is not a record about Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. It is not a record that imagines losing a child. We sing about the act of writing about grief. The potential insensitivity of it, and the importance of trying to make some sense of it.”

In addition to a beautiful ‘lyrical-art’ collage, downloaders will also receive a handwritten note from Spring Offensive containing their own thoughts during the creation of the release, it’s overall concept and even a brief explanation about the first segment of the record – a rare treat from the creative, and often secretive, band who are known to keep their lyrical cards close to their chest.
